Khan Market

This guide to Khan Market in Delhi follows seventy-four Pashtun families who fled the North-West Frontier Province during Partition and were handed shops here in 1951 for fifty rupees a month rent. It traces why they named the market after Dr. Khan Sahib, the province's former Chief Minister and brother of the Frontier Gandhi, who had helped them escape, and the choice both brothers made to boycott the 1947 referendum on which country their province would join.
