Dizengoff Street

This guide to Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv opens on the morning of October 19, 1994, aboard a crowded bus climbing the street north of Dizengoff Square, and follows a young passenger who sets a bag down at his feet. It also traces the street's earlier life, when locals coined the slang verb lehizdangef for strolling here, back when this was called the Champs-Elysees of Tel Aviv. The street carries the name of founding mayor Meir Dizengoff, and the square to its south takes his wife Zina's name.
