Charles Clore Park

This guide to Charles Clore Park in Tel Aviv follows filmmaker Hillel Omer, who documented the last days of Manshiya, an Arab quarter of Jaffa, before returning years later to design the park built where it once stood. It traces Manshiya's growth since the 1870s to roughly twelve thousand Arab residents and a thousand Jews, and the 1948 fighting between Irgun militia and British troops that emptied it. For nearly two decades afterward, the ruins simply stood as rubble by the shore.
