Roe & Co Distillery

This guide to Roe & Co Distillery in Dublin starts in 1929, when the Irish Times called the whiskey maker that once stood here the largest pot still distillery in the world, though almost nothing survives of it today but a windmill tower and a pear tree. It traces the business back to 1757, when Peter Roe bought a modest distillery beside a corn mill, and forward to George Roe's fortune, built on output that reportedly doubled the neighboring Jameson distillery's. Two streets away, that old windmill tower still leans over the rooftops, and the pear tree still blooms every spring.
