USAT Liberty Shipwreck

This guide to the USAT Liberty Shipwreck in Bali follows the American cargo ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine on January 11, 1942, and the failed tow attempt that forced her crew to run her aground at Tulamben with no lives lost. It traces the twenty-one years she sat rusting and stripped on that beach, and the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung, the same disaster that killed roughly eleven hundred islanders elsewhere on the island.
