Seminyak Beach

Seminyak Beach's guide traces a local legend back to 1498, when a traveling priest named Danghyang Nirartha crossed this stretch of coast blessing temples as he went. In the forest behind the sand he met Bhuta Ijo, a fierce guardian ogre, and struck a bargain involving a small wooden chest of betel nut. A small temple still stands by the shore where that bargain was sealed, only a generation removed from when this coast was quiet fishing ground and rice paddies.
