Sándor Palace

This guide to Sandor Palace in Budapest opens in the early hours of April 3, 1941, inside the prime minister's residence, where Pal Teleki had just signed a friendship treaty with Yugoslavia only for Hitler to demand German troops cross Hungary to invade that same neighbor. It reaches back to the palace's builder, Count Vince Sandor, and the secret tunnel he had dug beneath the square so he need never cross it in public. His own son later became known as the Devil Rider, once leaping a horse over three others while standing astride two moving carriages.
