Jackson Park

This guide to Jackson Park in Chicago opens at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, when some twenty-seven million visitors passed through its fairgrounds. Along the mile-long Midway Plaisance, two Austrian-Hungarian brothers-in-law ran a stand grilling homemade beef sausages for a dime apiece. It follows what became of that stand after the fair closed, alongside two other snack fortunes born on the same midway, including a young William Wrigley junior handing out gum samples nearby. Little of the fair survives, but you're standing on the same lagoons and lawns.
