Church of Mary Magdalene

This guide to the Church of Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem follows Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia, who stood on this hillside in 1888 for the church's consecration and later became a nun. It traces her husband's assassination, her turn to charity, and the 1918 night Bolshevik soldiers pushed her and Sister Barbara into a mine shaft in the Ural Mountains.
