Dung Gate

This guide to Jerusalem's Dung Gate traces its name back to Nehemiah's account of ash carried out through here twenty-five centuries ago, then turns to a single night in June 1967, when bulldozers moved in behind the gate hours after the fighting stopped. The gate itself was cut by Sultan Suleiman in the 1530s, barely wide enough for a donkey. Stand at the gate and look at the wide road running through it today.
