National Archives Museum

This guide to the National Archives Museum in Washington, D.C. opens on December 13, 1952, when tanks rolled up Constitution Avenue and an armored car carried the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights to a new home. It follows Archivist Wayne Grover's fight to get the documents out of a firetrap at the Library of Congress, and the armed convoy of servicewomen, riflemen and a motorcycle escort that finally delivered them here.
