This guide to the Mário de Andrade Library recounts a Sunday morning in December 2025 when two armed men walked into a glass-domed gallery holding thirteen rare prints — eight Matisse engravings from the Jazz series and five Cândido Portinari illustrations for Menino de Engenho — and held a guard and an elderly couple still while they worked. It follows the theft itself, inside a 1942 Art Deco landmark that is also a United Nations documents depository. Stand at the same front doors the men used and look up at the dome above.
