This guide follows King Hezekiah of Judah in the late 700s BCE, hearing that the Assyrian army was marching on Jerusalem and deciding to bury the city's only water source inside the mountain itself, out of the enemy's reach. It traces the two teams of diggers who hacked through limestone from opposite ends by lamp and hammer and shouted guesses, and the ancient inscription boys later found describing the exact moment their tunnels met. You can still wade through that same channel, water at your ankles, following their crooked path by feel.
