Casa das Rosas

This guide to Casa das Rosas on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo traces the avenue back to 1891, when coffee planters began lining it with French-style mansions built on fortunes made far away in the countryside. It follows this particular house to its 1935 completion, designed by architect Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo as a home for his own daughter, with a marble staircase, stained glass and a garden modeled loosely on Versailles.
