花港观鱼

This guide to Flower Harbor Park in Hangzhou opens with a carved fish above a stone tablet missing one of its brushstrokes, a deliberate edit made by Emperor Kangxi during a visit in 1699. You'll hear how the pond itself began generations earlier as the private retreat of Lu Yunsheng, a retired Southern Song court eunuch who dug it for his own fish and flowers before a painter immortalized the scene as one of the Ten Views of West Lake. Kangxi's grandson Qianlong later added his own poem to the same stone, so two emperors now share one tablet over Lu's pond.
