About this audio guide
This guide to Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. follows a National Park Service biologist's blunt assessment of a forest overrun by white-tailed deer, whose numbers by the twenty-tens far exceeded what these woods could support. It traces the unusual nighttime program the park launched in the winter of 2014, when roads through the park are quietly barricaded after dark for reasons most joggers never learn. The venison from those nights goes straight to DC Central Kitchen, feeding families across the city.
