Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre

This guide to the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre follows Myra Osrin, who brought a travelling exhibition about Anne Frank to Johannesburg in 1994 and watched Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu walk through it. It traces her partnership with Stephen Smith, founder of Britain's first Holocaust centre, and the years of planning that led to the doors opening on Hatfield Street in 1999 as Africa's first Holocaust and genocide centre. The building sits inside the grounds of the Gardens Shul, on Hatfield Street.
