Chapel of the Ascension

This guide to the Chapel of the Ascension on Jerusalem's Mount of Olives opens around the year 384, when a Roman noblewoman named Poimenia financed a rotunda built around a footprint in the bedrock, believed to be Christ's last mark on earth before ascending. It follows the site through a Persian burning in 614, a Crusader church raised over it, and Saladin's forces tearing that down in 1187.
