Mandraki Marina & Port

This guide to Mandraki Marina traces the bronze Colossus of Rhodes back to its origin, melted down by the sculptor Chares of Lindos from the abandoned siege engines of Demetrius the First after his failed assault in 292 BC. It follows the method Chares used to raise a bronze giant estimated at thirty-three meters with no crane capable of lifting it, building the statue section by section inside a hidden mound of earth over twelve years of hidden labor. Look for the two bronze deer on stone columns still guarding the harbor mouth today.
