Trafalgar Square

This guide to Trafalgar Square opens with fourteen stonemasons eating a rump steak dinner fifty-two metres up, perched atop the unfinished column in the autumn of 1843, in the week before Nelson's statue joined them. It goes back to the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where Nelson broke the enemy line and paid for the victory with his life, before returning to the granite column Londoners raised in his honor.
