Guildhall

This guide to the Guildhall in London follows Lady Jane Grey, queen for nine days in 1553, as she is walked here in mourning black to stand trial for treason before the Lord Mayor and the Duke of Norfolk. It also traces the hall itself through the Great Fire of 1666, when witnesses watched it glow through the smoke while everything around it burned. Picture the oak-framed hall as it stood in that moment, still bearing the walls raised back in 1411.
