National Sports Museum

This guide to the National Sports Museum in Nice opens with Maurice Herzog atop Annapurna in June 1950, the first person to summit a peak over eight thousand meters, and what the descent cost him. It follows his path from that mountain to a role reviving a shuttered sports collection in 1963, and the collection's long move through Paris and an old stadium before it finally opened here in 2014.
