Modern and Contemporary Art Museum (MAMAC)

This guide to the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum in Nice opens with the most famous photograph of Yves Klein, him leaping from a wall with arms outstretched, that turns out to be a fake made with a hidden tarpaulin. Born in Nice in 1928 to two painters, Klein became obsessed with the idea that pure color alone could carry more feeling than any picture, and worked with a Paris chemist to develop the ultramarine he patented as International Klein Blue. The museum keeps an entire room for it, hung with roughly twenty of his works.
