Sederholm House

This guide to Sederholm House in Helsinki follows merchant Johan Sederholm, whose father arrived in the city as a customs officer in 1722, and Johan's own rise through the stone and timber trade that supplied the new sea fortress of Suomenlinna. By the 1750s he was rich enough to defy a crown order almost nobody else could afford to follow. The house later served as a tobacco factory, a school, a bakery and a courthouse, remodeled along the way by architect Konstantin Kiseleff in 1866.
