Selkhet Papyrus

This guide to Selkhet Papyrus in Hurghada opens with the disappearance of papyrus-making from Egypt after the tenth century, when cheaper paper technology arrived and the craft of turning Nile reeds into pages was forgotten for generations. It follows the workshop's artisans as they revive the ancient process by hand, peeling, slicing and pressing the reed's pith with no glue at all. The gallery itself is named for Selkhet, an ancient Egyptian goddess associated with healing.
