Nõmme-Mustamäe maastikukaitseala protects a wooded ridge on Tallinn's edge where springs seep from ancient glacial sand and gravel. The guide follows the shifting count of those springs through the seasons, then turns to Nikolai von Glehn, the landowner who sold off plots that founded Nõmme in 1873 while keeping the best slope for a manor, a heated palm house and a private observatory. Walk the slope slowly and listen for water still moving underfoot.
