Günthersburgpark

This guide to Günthersburgpark in Frankfurt opens in 1886, as workmen tear down the summer palace of Mayer Carl von Rothschild, the last of his family still in the city, carrying out an unexplained instruction in his will. It follows the estate's turn into a public park in 1892 and lingers on the one building that survived from his era: an 1855 glass orangery. Each winter, gardeners once wheeled orange and lemon trees in and out of that same glass hall to keep them from the frost.
