Dreikönigskirche

This guide to the Dreikönigskirche in Frankfurt opens with the flood of summer 1342, when the Main rose nearly eight meters and cut Sachsenhausen off as an island for weeks, swallowing the small hospital chapel built here just two years earlier. It follows that chapel's growth into a full parish, and the church's replacement by this soaring Gothic Revival building, finished in 1881 with an eighty-meter tower. Stand at the tower's foot and look toward the river, which still runs close enough to touch.
