Teufelsberg

This guide to Teufelsberg in Berlin opens in 1946, when Allied forces tried and failed to demolish an unfinished Nazi military college designed by Hitler's own architect, buried beneath the forest floor. It follows the decades of rubble trucked in afterward, until the hill rose into the highest point in the city, sealing the ruin underneath. From there it turns to what the Americans and British later built on the summit, and what locals joked the strange white domes resembled.
