Hamburger Bahnhof - Contemporary Art National Gallery

This guide to Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin follows a 2004 protest: satirical posters offering free entry for slave laborers appeared outside the museum, aimed at a collection of some fifteen hundred artworks lent by Friedrich Christian Flick, grandson of an industrialist convicted at Nuremberg whose fortune relied on forced labor. Artists including Gerhard Richter and Hans Haacke, already represented in the museum's own collection, spoke out against the loan. The building itself has its own history, a bombed-out railway station left to rot for decades before this reconstruction.
