Brandenburg Gate

This guide to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin follows the bronze goddess atop it from her 1793 unveiling through Napoleon's 1806 victory parade, when he had her crated up and shipped to Paris as a trophy. It traces her years in storage and the Prussian soldiers who found the crates still sealed in the Louvre in 1814, and the iron cross they added when she came home. Along the way it touches the decades the gate itself later spent sealed off by a wall dividing the city.
