Waldstein Garden

The guide to Waldstein Garden in Prague centers on Albrecht von Wallenstein, the mercenary general who became one of the richest men in the Holy Roman Empire in the 1620s and cleared two dozen houses and gardens to build this palace, casting himself as Mars on his own ceiling. It follows Dutch sculptor Adriaen de Vries's bronze gods and the stucco dripstone grotto, molded to hide faces and animals in its drips, work he carried on here until his own death in 1626.
