萬象天地 The Mixc

This guide to The Mixc in Shenzhen begins in the cramped handshake buildings of Dachong Village, a farming community demolished in 2011 to make way for one of the city's most valuable retail sites. It follows what happened to the tens of thousands of residents told to leave, and the very different fortunes of the farmers who had owned the land, before the complex opened here in 2017. Two structures from the old village still stand inside it, a sea-god temple and an ancestral hall, tucked among the open-air lanes.
