Knight Valley

This guide to Knight Valley in Shenzhen traces how a local quarry, stripped bare to help build the city's skyline, was replanted and rebuilt into a mountain resort by the OCT Group starting in 2004. It follows the valley's name back to the wandering martial heroes of Chinese legend, and reaches the day in July 2011 when a wooden roller coaster called Mountain Flyer opened, cut straight into the same slopes the quarrymen once scarred. Look up at the ridge near the entrance, where its pale wooden lattice threads through the hillside.
