About this audio guide
This guide to Shanghai Wild Animal Park centers on an October 2020 afternoon in the beasts-of-prey zone, when a young keeper named Zhang Jinbin, promoted from tour guide to tiger handler, was sent to talk an excavator operator back into his cab after the machine broke down mid-job. It traces the ordinary rules and duties that put him there, and what the safety equipment keepers did and didn't carry that day. Notice the painted lines and locked doors along your route now, and what they were added because of.
