Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden （West Gate）

This guide to the Chenshan Botanical Garden's west gate tells how three decades of stone quarrying left Chenshan Hill with a deep, scarred gash, abandoned after the mine closed. It follows landscape architect Yufan Zhu's unusual decision, made as Shanghai prepared for the 2010 World Expo, about what to do with that wound rather than hide it.
