Longji Rice Terrace Scenic Spot

This guide to the Longji Rice Terraces above Guilin centers on the Red Yao village of Huangluo, where women cut their hair only twice in a lifetime and let it grow for decades afterward. It covers the Guinness-record hair-combing chain staged there in 2023 and the fermented rice-water recipe passed down through generations. The terraces themselves were carved into these slopes by Zhuang and Yao farmers starting in the thirteenth century, entirely by hand, on some of the steepest grades in the region.
