Museo del Sonido

This guide to Museo del Sonido in Santiago introduces a rare double-keyboard piano, built face to face inside one case by the French maker Pleyel and debuted at the 1897 Brussels world's fair. It follows the instrument to Chile, bought that same year for the poet Eusebio Lillo, and its long stretch in silent storage at a museum in Valdivia before a chance conversation at a birthday party set its rescue in motion. Stand close to the case and look for the second, backward keyboard bolted on for a player facing the other way.
