Uetliberg

This guide to Uetliberg above Zurich opens with a puzzle: who robs a grave before the builders have even finished covering it? Around twenty-five hundred years ago, Celtic laborers were still piling earth over a freshly built burial chamber on this slope when thieves broke in and stripped it bare, working fast and leaving only a scattering of gold behind near the entrance. The guide follows the hillfort above, its ramparts running for nearly two kilometers along the ridge, and the excavation that finally opened the mound in 1979. Look for the low rise in the ground below the summit, easy to walk straight past.
