Mount Pleasant

This guide to Mount Pleasant traces the buried creek running beneath your feet, once called Brewery Creek, which powered four breweries here in the 1880s and gave the neighborhood its industrial start. It follows land speculator Henry Valentine Edmonds, who named the district after his wife's Irish birthplace and bet on a railway that hadn't yet arrived, and the streetcar workers who built up the neighborhood once it did.
