Christ Church Cathedral

This guide to Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Vancouver opens in 1971, when the congregation itself voted to tear down their Gothic church for a radical underground design by architect Arthur Erickson, capped by a crystal tower. Vancouver's city council balked, and ordinary residents who loved the old stone walls pushed back against the very people who wanted it gone. Look up at the cedar-plank arches overhead as you listen.
