Barangaroo Reserve

This guide to Barangaroo Reserve in Sydney is built around Barangaroo herself, a senior Cammeraygal woman and expert fisherwoman who refused the clothing, food and wine the British colonists offered her, and who once went after a man flogging a convict over stolen hunting gear. It follows her marriage to Bennelong, her fury at colonists overfishing the harbour, and her death in 1791 not long after giving birth to a daughter. Bennelong had her ashes scattered with her fishing spears in the governor's own garden, near where Circular Quay stands today.
