Plaza Dorrego

This guide to Plaza Dorrego in Buenos Aires opens with Manuel Dorrego, governor of the city, deposed in a single afternoon in December 1828 by the general Juan Lavalle. It follows Dorrego as he flees into the countryside trying to raise loyal troops, and the decades afterward when nobody dared put his name on this square, which had already been called Alto de San Pedro and then Plaza del Comercio. The plaza waited until 1905 to finally take his name, decades after it had already known other names and other lives.
