Planetario Galileo Galilei

This guide to the Planetario Galileo Galilei in Buenos Aires follows the argument that got it built, pushed by a city councilman and a culture official in 1958, and the architect Enrique Jan who broke ground in Parque Tres de Febrero in 1962 on land that had once hosted a cricket club and an early football match. It traces Jan's decision to shape the whole structure like Saturn, a ring hovering over a crater, opening to invited guests in December 1966 before the public got in two years later. Out on the terrace stand three metal meteorites pulled from the soil of Chaco and Santiago del Estero, fallen more than four thousand years ago.
