Hili Archaeological park

This guide to Hili Archaeological Park near Al Ain follows Danish archaeologist Karen Frifelt's 1968 dig, when a low stone chamber turned out to hold not one skeleton but dozens. It traces the tomb's use as a communal Bronze Age burial place around 2000 BCE, the carved doorways meant to be reopened generation after generation, and the puzzle Frifelt's team faced sorting whose bones belonged to whom in a chamber built for the many. Look closely at the reliefs ringing the two doorways for the outlines of hands and hooves.
